This network graph represents all characters who show up together in Control Scenes, scenes where characters vie for, exert, or desire control. After we ran XQuery over the script to create a tab-separated list, we used the excellent data visualization software to analyze the network and sort the network.
The two main controlling characters are clearly Tetsuo and the Colonel as they appear together in Control Scenes the most.
The node sizes are based on Degree (# of times a character appears in a Control Scene), the colors (red for high blue for low) are based on Average Shortest Path Length (how central are they in the network), and the edge sizes and colors are based on "Edge Betweeness" (the number of shortest paths between two nodes).
This bar chart shows how many times charactes imbued with "The Power" activate it on their own will. Tetsuo disregards the advice from the Espers and Kei not to use The Power too much or risk losing control of it. Akira, who only uses his power once, dramatically overwhelms all of the characters, since he has honed it to a degree far beyond the others.
